Convex Surfaces in Contact Geometry: Class Notes
نویسنده
چکیده
These are notes covering part of a contact geometry course. They are in very preliminary form. In particular the last few sections have not really been proof read. Hopefully I will be able to come back to these notes in the near future to improve and extend them, but I hope they are useful as is. Section 8 have not been written yet. Section 7 currently contains no proofs and section 1 contains only the statements of necessary results.

Geometry Definition and Contact Analysis of Spherical Involute Straight Bevel Gears
A practical application of the spherical involute surface to the forged straight bevel gears is provided and demonstrated in this work. Conjugate (pure involute) theoretical surfaces are developed from the input design parameters. The surfaces are modified to suit the actual application (automotive differential). The unloaded (or low load) tooth contact analysis of modified surfaces is performe...
متن کاملNumerical simulation of Laminar Free Convection Heat Transfer around Isothermal Concave and Convex Body Shapes
In the present research, free convection heat transfer from isothermal concave and convex body shapes is studied numerically. The body shapes investigated here, are bi-sphere, cylinder, prolate and cylinder with hemispherical ends; besides, they have the same height over width (H/D = 2). A Numerical simulation is implemented to obtain heat transfer and fluid flow from all of the geometries in a...
متن کاملChapter 6 Exponential families and maximum entropy
In this set of notes, we give a very brief introduction to exponential family models, which are a broad class of distributions that have been extensively studied in the statistics literature [4, 1, 2, 7]. There are deep connections between exponential families, convex analysis [7], and information geometry and the geometry of probability measures [1], and we will only touch briefly on a few of ...
متن کاملDetermining a Surrogate Contact Pair in a Hertzian Contact Problem.
Laboratory testing of contact phenomena can be prohibitively expensive if the interacting bodies are geometrically complicated. This work demonstrates means to mitigate such problems by exploiting the established observation that two geometrically dissimilar contact pairs may exhibit the same contact mechanics. Specific formulas are derived that allow a complicated Hertzian contact pair to be r...
متن کاملMean Curvature Motion of Non-parametric Hypersurfaces with Contact Angle Condition
describes the evolution of graph(u(·, t)) by its mean curvature in the direction of the unit normal with prescribed contact angle (given by cos−1 φ) at boundary. This problem has been studied by G. Huisken [3] for φ ≡ 0, that is, the surfaces have vertical contact angle at the boundary, and by Altschuler and Wu [1] for the case that n = 2 and Ω is strictly convex. The main result of [3] states ...
